Crab Rangoon is a popular American-Chinese appetizer consisting of crispy wontons filled with a creamy mixture of crab meat and cream cheese, often served with a sweet and sour dipping sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz (225g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup cooked crab meat (fresh, canned, or imitation), finely chopped
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 24 wonton wrappers
  • 1 egg, beaten (for sealing)
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Sweet and sour sauce, for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix the cream cheese, crab meat, green onions, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, and soy sauce until well combined.
  2. Place a wonton wrapper on a clean surface. Add about 1 teaspoon of filling in the center.
  3. Brush the edges with beaten egg. Fold the wrapper into a triangle or pinch into a pouch shape, pressing the edges to seal.
  4. Repeat with remaining wrappers and filling.
  5. Heat oil in a deep fryer or deep skillet to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Fry the wontons in batches for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  8. Serve warm with sweet and sour sauce if desired.

Notes

  • Use real crab meat for the best flavor, but imitation crab also works well.
  • Do not overfill the wontons to prevent leaking during frying.
  • Can be baked at 400°F (200°C) for 12-15 minutes as a healthier alternative.
